Would divorced people be welcome in the Mormon Church?

Dear Gramps,
I have an aunt and cousin who are Mormons. I have been reading some stuff about it and ya’ll seem to be really family orientated, which is great. But what I have been reading from quotes from ya’ll past Presidents is that its not very good for a member not to marry a non-member, which I fully understand. But it seemed to me that ya’ll look down on those members that are in that environment. I have a question dealing with a divorced man (me). I’m 43, divorced with a 13
year old son living with his mother, and if I consider the Mormon faith will ya’ll reject me as well? What is the overall look of the Mormon Church of divorced men that come in the church later in life who may not want to remarry?
Allen, from Waco, Texas

Dear Allen,
It is true that the Mormon Church is a family oriented organization. However, single persons are not only perfectly welcome as members of the Church, but specific programs exist that are designed to cater to their special needs. There are planned activities in the Church for Senior Adult Single Men and Women, as well as for Young Adult Single Men and Women. Each individual soul is precious in the sight of our Heavenly Father and the blessings of church membership belong to them as well as to family members.
