Who were the 12 apostles at the time of Christ who will be the judges?

Dear Gramps,
Who were the 12 apostles at the time of Christ, those who will be the judges?
The two he appeared to on the road to Emmaus, were they named as those of the 12 in Matthew?
Sue, from Birmingham, England

Dear Sue,
The account to which you refer is given in the 24 chapter of Luke. A number of women, visiting the tomb of Jesus and bringing spices with which to anoint the body, found the tomb empty, and ran to tell the apostles. Without doubt all of the apostles returned to the tomb, but the scriptures mention only Peter, who descended into the sepulchre to see for himself. The following verse, says—
And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
The phrase, of them, refers to the apostles, but nowhere in the scripture are their names mentioned.
Concerning the Twelve who will be the judges, they will consist of the original eleven, along with Matthias, who replaced Judas (Acts 1:26).
