What is the motive of God for asking us to worship Him?

Dear Gramps,
God and Christ want us to worship him, what is their motive in this? Does this not seem contradictory to their own teachings of staying humble? What exactly is the purpose of worship?
Mr. Anderson, from Texas

Dear Mr. Anderson,
What appears contradictory to me is such a ribald affront as to question the motives of God for doing anything!! You imply that God wants us to worship him to feed His ego! How could anyone attribute the sinful attitudes of degraded humanity to the One Being who is the epitome of and the very definition of perfection! One of the purposes of worship is to acknowledge the perfection of God, and to submit ourselves to Him in unquestioning subservience and obedience. Curiously, you seem to want us to address you by the dignified title of Mr. rather than by your given name, as does everyone else who addresses this site. You seem not to be too concerned about violating God’s very teachings of humility of which you accuse God of violating. You might also look into the teachings of God concerning pride and arrogance.
