What is the history behind the Joseph Smith “gold finger ring”?

Hi Gramps!!
Recently we had an assembly at school about class rings (I’m a junior in high school). At first I was very excited about the idea and my first thought was that I was going to get one. When I found out how much the prices of these rings were I quickly changed my mind. I have been looking around for alternate ring choices, and the first thing that came to my mind was CTR rings. While I was looking for CTR rings, I stumbled upon the Joseph Smith gold finger ring.
I guess my question is what is the history behind this “gold finger ring?” Is there any information behind it?
Jared, from Huntsville, Utah

Dear Jared,
Nothing special. Mention has been made of the fact that Joseph Smith was known to have worn a gold finger ring. But many, many people have done the same. I have worn a gold finger ring for the last 58 years without ever taking it from my finger. Gold finger rings are most often worn as wedding bands, so there is nothing partiularly significant about the “Joseph Smith” gold finger ring.
