What is the policy about families taking care of each other’s children at Mormon temples?

Dear Gramps,

I have a question concerning ordinance workers in Mormon temples. A few years ago our ward was blessed to become excursion workers in the temple. Is this still being practiced in temples today? When we go on ward temple excursions, those of us who have minor children and were excursion workers would pitch in and take turns watching each others children. Would the ruling of ordinance workers still apply in this situation? I wish to remain anonymous. Thank you.

Dear Anonymous,

The concept of “excursion workers” for the temple is undoubtedly a local calling, apparently to assist those who must travel long distances to attend the temple. To my understanding this is not a church-wide calling, and so the requirements and conditions would be dictated by the local authorities, and I would imagine would have no relationship with the requirements for temple ordinance workers, other than those defined by the local authority.
