Were concubines married to the Old Testament Prophets?

Dear Gramps,

My parents and I have recently had a discussion about the concubines of the Old Testament. Were they married to the prophets? Thanks

Dan, from Spring, Texas

Dear Dan,

A concubine is a woman who cohabits with a man without being married. Such a relationship would normally be adulterous, unless the relationship were entered into by the command of the Lord. Concubines were given by the Lord, for instance, to Abraham and King David, as well as Solomon and Moses, among others of the prophets (See the Mormon scripture Doctrine and Covenants 132:38). We are told in verse 39 of that same scripture that David took one concubine that was not commanded by the Lord, the wife of Uriah, and as a consequence

he hath fallen from his exaltation, and received his portion; and he shall not inherit them out of the world, for I gave them unto another, saith the Lord.
