Were the angels who received and ate food prepared by Lot already resurrected beings?*

Dear Gramps,
There is something that has been bugging me for a long time now. We all know that Jesus Christ was the first person resurrected. He testified of this when he appeared to his disciples and asked them to touch him, in which he said, “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” (Luke24:39) Then in verse 41 Jesus asks them if they have any meat? In verse 42 they bring him a piece of broiled fish and some honeycomb and in verse 43 he eats them.

But if we go back to the Book of Genesis, of the time when the two angels approached Lot at the Gate of Sodom, Lot invited them in and he prepared food for them and they did eat. (See Genesis 19:3) My question to you is this, if they were angels and they ate tangible food like the lord did after his resurrection, wouldn’t they be resurrected beings too? And if they are, then how could they be resurrected before the Lord was resurrected? Could it be possible that they were two resurrected beings from a different world? I would appreciate your response on this, thank you.

Dear Don,

The Hebrew word translated as Angel in the passage referred to is Mal’ak, which, in addition to Angel, is also translated as messenger or representative. Would it not be more appropriate to question the accuracy of the translation of that word into English than it would be to question the fact that the Savior, initiating the resurrection by the infinite sacrifice of the atonement, would apply to all of our Father’s children on all of his worlds?
