Two questions: Did Adam and Eve commit incest? What is the difference between apostles and disciples in the Book of Mormon?

Hello Gramps,
I have read at least a couple of your books and have felt confident with your answers, I have two questions. Today a friend asked why Adam and Eve had to multiply and replenish the earth. She is sickened by the thought of incest. I do not believe father felt it was incest but rather a means to an end. He had to populate the world. Any feelings?
Secondly, In 1st Nephi it refers to the 12 apostles as well as the 12 disciples. What is the significance? Does the term disciple refer to any one that follows Christ? Thank you in advance for your help. These questions have not been answered by others for me.
Cynthia, from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

Dear Cynthia,
With respect to your first question, how ridiculous to even think of incest in such a circumstance. Adam and Eve were commanded by God to multiply and replenish the earth. Therefore, there can be no thought of any unclean thing in their obedience to the command of God. And the same goes for their children, who married their brothers and sisters. THERE WASN’T ANYONE ELSE THERE!!!
Concerning your second question, in 1 Ne 12:9, we read–
And he said unto me: Thou rememberest the twelve apostles of the Lamb? Behold they are they who shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel; wherefore, the twelve ministers of thy seed shall be judged of them; for ye are of the house of Israel.
The twelve apostles of the Lamb are the twelve apostles that the Lord called at Jerusalem to preside over his Church. Nephi states that they are to judge the twelve tribes of Israel, who include the Nephites and Lamanites on the American continent, also including the twelve ministers of the seed of Nephi. These twelve ministers are the twelve disciples of the Lamb, spoken of elsewhere in 1 Nephi. They were ordained by the Savior after his resurrection and were called to preside over the Nephite Church at that time. They were not called to be apostles, as the twelve apostles in Jerusalem were to preside over the Church in all the world, in the same way that it is done today.
