If the Lord requires us to rely on the scriptures and the words of the prophets, why is it necessary to seek the advice of Gramps?

Gramps,

I have two questions. The first, if the Lord clearly commands us not to rely on the wisdom of man but to rely on him through his prophets, scriptures, and through personal revelation, why is it necessary to seek your advice for such questions? The second, if it is necessary to ask you questions about such controversial issues, why don’t you use the words of the prophets and not the opinions of Mormon authors?

Robert, from Ogden, Utah

Dear Robert,

In the first place, it is in no way necessary to seek Gramps’ advise on any question, related to the Mormon Church or to anything else. Secondly, the Mormon authors that Gramps cites are by and large the prophets of the Lord. Further, he tries to cite scripture or the prophets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or other Church authorities wherever he can. What more to you want?
