How come the Mormon Church hasn’t picked up on the date of March 26 for the date of the First Visioin?

Dear Gramps,
I have read recently where several people have studied diligently to figure when the First Vision occurred and have come up with the date of March 26th. We know it was in early Spring. Now if this is the case, why do all the paintings of this great event show a grove of trees with all their leaves? Most of them look more like it would be in late May or early June. I know that we don’t know the actual date, but this scholarly study sounds plausible, but then I don’t think the Church would authorize paintings that are inaccurate, so what is the answer?

Dear Sue,
I will never understand how it is that when people read any little thing that could be turned into some doubt or criticism of the Mormon Church they will accept it as though it had been given to them by a personal revelation from the angel Moroni!! So you recently read where several people studied diligently to figure when the First Vision occurred, and they somehow arrived at the date of March 26th!!! WOW!! That must have been some piece of work! Undoubtedly it must be absolutely true or else how could they have come up with one particular day! What they should do is run, not walk, to the Prophet, President Hinckley, and advise him of this new knowledge so that he can enter it in the next edition of the Pearl of Great Price!
And further, how come all the artists who have painted pictures of the First Vision didn’t already know such an obvious fact that these several people recently discovered after their diligent study? I think that you should apologize to yourself for having been taken in by such an obvious fabrication. And while we’re on the subject, I know of a bridge called the London bridge that was recently moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. I could get it for you real cheap.
