Are we morally responsible for the content of our dreams?

Dear Gramps,

How responsible are we for the sins we commit in our dreams while we are asleep? Even grievous things we would never do while awake? Don’t they indicate a subconscious predilection for these things?

Robert, from Portland, Oregon

Dear Robert,

The actual psychological and physiological significance of dreams are still not completely understood. However, they are undoubtedly release mechanisms for both psychological and physiological stress. Since they are not under the control of our conscious minds they have absolutely no moral significance.
