When does the spirit enter the body?

Good Morning, Gramps!

Just yesterday, I was speaking with a Pro-life, sign-bearing marcher outside of one of the Planned Parenthood locations in Phoenix, Arizona.

I intend to volunteer & wanted information on their particular organization. I’m LDS but would be Pro-life anyhow.

Lately, I’ve been wondering when the Spirit enters the body. I suppose I always assummed it was at conception but, now, believe it might be during gestation. Perhaps, that is the purpose of ‘The Quickening’. What other purpose could it have other than, maybe, indicating the fetus is, now, viable. I’d appreciate your input no matter your religious or non-religious affiliation. Thank you so much.

Genia,

Your question is a great mix between science and theology. Certain views “in the name of science” can be a religion all their own. As followers of Christ, we can know when science can help us understand God, or when such research has the intention of detracting from our faith.

I do not know when the spirit enters the body. To me, it doesn’t matter. All human life, no matter what stage of formation or intelligence, is sacred. Whether it’s at conception or any time thereafter, it is sacred.

Those advocating a view of “science only”, may be looking at this world in the absence of a Grand Architect. In that point of view, conception is just a few cells. Nothing is held sacred when you belittle it and esteem it to be without worth.
