Question

Dear Gramps,

Thankfully we returned to the Church after years of inactivity. A “new” practice is the PPI, which I believe stands for ‘Personal Priesthood Interview’. Could you please provide the background for the PPI?

Gordon

Answer

Dear Gordon,

Indeed, PPI stands for Personal Priesthood Interview. It was started some years ago in connection with the Home Teaching Program. Home teachers were expected to have a personal priesthood interview with their quorum leader each month to report the status of the families that they were assigned to visit, particuarly to report any need that the quorum or the bishopric could be of help with.

The practice varies somewhat from ward to ward and from stake to stake, but the principle remains. Home teachers are to report to their priesthood leaders each month, whether by phone or by a personal priesthood interview, to let the priesthood leaders know if there are any needs or wants that could use quorum or ward participation in their solution.
