Thank you so much for your time and effort on this website. I’ve learned so much as a convert. I am a tired and harried single mom who barely keeps up with my 2 boys and demanding job. I feel great conflict over trying to acquire a temple marriage while still being a loving mom. There just aren’t enough hours in the day or energy in my body to do both. Could you please guide me?

Dear Heather,

I would like to share with you a scripture. It is Mosiah 4:27:

27 And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.

To me it sounds like you are being diligent, but that you are running at the limits of your strength and capacity. The Lord doesn’t require of us that which we can not do. This means that when we reach our limits we have to prioritize which of the many good things we will do and what we have to let go of for awhile.

As a single parent, working to provide for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs is a higher priority, then trying to date. So don’t load yourself down with guilt that you can’t do everything right now. Focus on what is required of you now and keep the desire for a temple marriage strong in your heart. Then have faith that in the Lord’s due time he will open up doors for you that are currently closed.
